'Visconti Film Festival' at MoMA.

The 'Museum of Modern Art', and 'Ente Gestione Cinema', with the patronage of the 'Istituto italiano di Cultura', proudly present the first complete retreospective in the United States covering the works of the great Italian director Luchino Visconti. His films, whose styles range from natural realism (Rocco e i suoi fratelli), to operatic grandeur (Il Gattopardo), often dealt with the moral decay and disintegration of families or great figures. These films have been restored thanks to a multi-year preservation program undertaken by the 'Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia - Cineteca Nazionale', Rome. The series has been organized for the Museum by Mary Lea Bandy, Chief Curator, Department of Film and Video. Films are in Italian with English sub-titles.

Held at : MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, New York City

Date: Nov. 21 - Dec.12, 1997
